Windows and Baskets

 Alicia's pre-school class made these "trees" on the windows of their classroom.  It is a combination of hand prints and fingerprints.

 I put Hyrum in the basket to keep him from getting into things.  He thought it was fun.

And of course, Katie wanted to do it too.  I love all the hair sticking to the basket.

Zoo and a Puzzle

The followning pictures are from Jared's phone, so they aren't the best quality.

Jared and Ray took our girls to the zoo on Saturday.  They had a great time and I got a bit of a break and quiet.

 That right there is Katie's personality.

 The zoo has a new rainforest house.  There are hundreds of butterflies, including this huge beauty.  I must go there.

 In the end they got poured on and were soaked.  But it was fun anyways.

I just want to know how this car got on the German autobahn and with Berlin plates too.

Events of the Week

Here is the recap of the past week.

 These two pictures were just cute and I couldn't resist putting them up.  Yes, that is a chocolate cookie he is devouring.  Yes, I did it to keep him from screaming, but it is from Italy so that should make the whole bribery thing better.

We had a BBQ with Schulz Family on Richy's last night visiting us.  Sara thinks my kid is as cute as I do.  Our kids loved playing with theirs and the adults loved being together and eating excellent food.  Thanks Richy for BBQing.

 Before Jared took Richy to the airport he got in a couple games with our kids.  We sure miss you.

Jared and Richy met Ray and Beate at the airport.  They were coming home from Utah and Rike's wedding.  Then Richy left to go back to England.  We missed Gma and Bahnka and are glad they are home. Especially when they bring home such fun gifts, like these nightgowns.

Thinking

Desperate Parents

Hyrum cries and cries most afternoons, while I am cleaning or making dinner.  He hates being in his highchair, no matter what I give him to entertain him.

 So went to Toys-R-Us and bought him this to keep him happy.  His sisters like to play with it even more than he does.

 I just thought this one was cute.  And the following are pictures of our trip to Toys-R-Us.

 By the way, we had a surprise visit from Richy this past weekend and we all LOVED it.  We miss him a lot.

And this last one is just funny.  His eyebrows are so expressive.

Volksfest=Carnival

Something I quickly learned in my German class after I moved here, was that a high percentage of words in German actually describe the thing or action they represent.  Such as Volksfest...literally it would mean "people festival or party".  This helped me to remember a lot of words. Sometimes it can get really funny.

Anywho, we went to the Volksfest in Nürnberg on their family discount day.  Everything was half price!  You can't beat that.

 Of course the kids loved the rides.  Anne couldn't stop smiling.  They did this ride, the carsosel, bumper cars and a miniature train.  Katie felt like such a big girl.

We didn't go on the ferris wheel, but I just loved the Bavarian them it had.  There we murals of famous Bavarian sites and rulers on it.

So typically German.  The brown things you see on the roof are dried hops.  That is what the beer is made of.  A couple weeks ago we past a tractor hauling these harvested hops to be processed. In the back of the huge wagon was a man sitting there.   I should have taken a picture, it was so picturesque.

One section of the Volksfest was dedicated to the old-fashioned Volksfest.  They had rides from way back when and displays.  Here is a sampling of it.

 Since I am so fascinated by all the history here of course, I had to take some other pictures.

This is part of the parade grounds from WWII.  They use it as road and parking now.  Hitler built it for the troops to march along as they wound there way to the arena and past him.  Look all the way down. The road stretches about a mile and then turns and continues on to the arena.  Can your imagine what a site it must have been?

This is also a remnant of Hitler's time.  He was building this coliseum, but never finished it.  Later it was used as a prison and now is a museum.  It is huge.  The arena, coliseum and parage route are surrounded by ponds.  These are where they quarried the stone to make all these landmarks.  You can even see on some of the buildings a discoloration where the nazi eagle hung on the building.  Everyone needs to visit Nürnberg.  It is such a historic and beautiful city.

Our Playground

Something that has always boggled my mind is that our village has no playground.  I found out last week that we do have one, but it is on the other side of the village.  You have all the businesses and major road separating it from the part of the village that has the highest population.  Strange.

We got together with some of our friends from the pre-school and had a couple hours of fun there.

 I taught Anne and Alicia how to "pump" on the swing.  Alicia caught on really fast, but Anne needs a bit more practice.  The poor girl must have inherited my coordination and sense of rythum.

Hyrum loved crawling around and eating whatever he could find.  I loved having have adult conversation with another mother.

Fishy, Fishy

Yesterday we did this fun craft.

Even Katie made a "fish". I think they turned out so cute. Too bad you can tell how cute they really are in this picture.

Sidenote: I took several pictures of the finished products, but sadly this was the best one. Katie's face is just unbelievable.

Of Tents and Cartoons

Jared set up this awesome tent for our FHE last week. Because of the flash you can't see how much fun it really was. He had set up lights in it too, for added atmosphere.

We watched old Disney Chip and Dale cartoons and ate cookies. It is so fun to see my kids loving the same things I loved growing up. It was such a special FHE and I hope we do it again.

Jared turned on the movie Happiest Millionaire for the girls later in the week. I grew up on this movie and my girls love it. This is how I found them. I guess Jared liked it too, though he would never admit it.
